Blacktimberwold, my dear friend, I am so sure, you have better knowledge and wastly more experience on firearms' field then humble myself, who is a 13-year-old teenager behind the X-box controller of course.
But let me explain you have some misconceptions if you let me say such crude words, my friend.
In my mind I started with position " ready to fire", that means : magazine loaded, round in the chamber, hammer cocked, safety in firing position, everyone knew that except you, I'm so sorry.
Sorry, but I think selfdefence scenarios usually not start with a ready-to-fire gun in your hand, maybe you mistakenly think about SWAT-Team (SpezialEinsatzKommando) forced entry, because you are so experienced.
"3. You have to put the safety lever in the firing position ( most modern guns)"
Sorry, but I've heard from someone who is much deeper in these "gun things", most modern service/SD handguns do not have any manual safeties. And maybe it is true, because NO manual-safety police pistol is accepted in Germany since 30+ years.
Therefore I - as a simple peasant - prefer such guns for stress situation which I had no other job, just draw-aim-and pull the trigger. No hassle with safety or cocking a hammer. Ohhh, sorry I WILL prefer when I will be 18 years old.
Now, back to X-box, my friend!
